NSW: Repeat of decade-old bushfire disaster averted

SYDNEY, Jan 10 AAP - Nearly 10 years to the day since bushfires encircled Sydney, destroying
a dozen homes and claiming several lives, firefighters have managed to avert a similar
disaster.
Terrey Hills residents yesterday thought it was a repeat of the 1994 fires as hundreds
of firefighters battled to contain blazes in the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, north-west
of Sydney, and Wilton in the south.
Foreshore communities in the Pittwater area were on high alert after a huge blaze,
