Enthralling drama.(News)

This week's results from Kentucky and Oregon in the Democratic primary contest have given Barack Obama a majority of "pledged" delegates; the Illinois senator also has a lead among the party's declared "superdelegates". This means Obama is now all but certain to be the Democratic nominee in November's presidential election.

Hillary Clinton has fought an admirably indefatigable campaign, but there now seems little justification for extending the contest. The time has come for the New York senator to concede defeat graciously.

Obama now needs to be given time to show that he is also the best candidate for the White House.
