Australia has had a mixed result in industrial disputes during September, with the
number of working days lost slightly down but the number of workers involved up.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics has reported 31,000 working days lost to industrial
disputes for the month, a six per cent drop from 32,900 in August.

Of the 81 disputes occurring in September, 25 were disputes carrying over from the

This was the highest number of continuing disputes since November 1990 when there were 31.

Victoria accounted for the largest proportion of working days lost, with 36 per cent,
or 11,300 days.

Over the 12-month period to September this year, the number of employees involved in
disputes dropped by 13 per cent while the number of days lost rose by 20 per cent.
