OLY: Last minute Olympic ticket sale blitz stats tomorrow

Olympic organisers will begin a last-minute advertising blitz tomorrow to fill more
than 2 million empty seats, including more than 212,700 at gold medal sessions.

The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper says SOCOG will begin its final ticketing campaign
in an attempt to raise up to $150 million and avoid the prospect of swathes of empty seats
at venues.

The campaign comes in the same week a SOCOG inventory revealed less than six weeks
before the opening ceremony tickets are available to more than 100 of the 142 gold medal
sessions.

More than two months after SOCOG finished its last ticketing campaign there are unsold
seats across all price categories for the gold medal sessions, including popular sports
such as athletics, gymnastics, diving, triathlon and basketball.

The newspaper says remaining gold medal session tickets are priced from $10 for modern
pentathlon finals, to $455 for A-class seats at the athletics finals.

Qld: Young man stabbed to death on Gold Coast

BRISBANE, Feb 18 AAP - A 19-year-old male stabbing victim has died on the Gold Coast.

Police called to a unit at Burleigh Heads just before midnight last night found the
victim in an internal stairwell. He had a chest wound.

Police have detained a 27-year-old man.

Melbourne police say a woman fought for her life before being killed in a frenzied stabbing
attack by two intruders in her outer Melbourne house yesterday.

Detective Inspector BRIAN RIX of the Homicide Squad says 47-year-old PAHETSORINE VISISOMBAT
(PRON: Pa-HET-serene-i VIZZI-som-bat) died in a short and extremely violent attack at her home
in North Dandenong.

Inspector RIX says there was a substantial amount of blood throughout the house and her
attackers are believed to have been injured.

Neighbours say they heard a loud and violent argument inside the house before Ms VISISOMBAT
was killed.





Inspector RIX says Ms VISISOMBAT worked as a consultant in a high-profile Collins Street
company.

He says many of her colleagues are traumatised by her murder and are being counselled.

their central Brisbane headquarters today to protest pay levels they say lag behind that of
other public sector health services.

A man has been charged over deliberately lighting a large bushfire in his own Blue

BRISBANE, Jan 10 AAP - Describing a severe weather event as a "one-in-100-year flood"

is misleading and the term should be dropped, a Queensland academic says.

The term doesn't mean a flood will occur once in 100 years, but that there's a one
